Everyday Rituals Around a City Temple

Danang, Vietnam · April 25, 2026

Life, like a puzzle, is made up of a succession of rituals and traditions. If the places in which we find ourselves by chance could speak, I think they would tell their stories not through dry facts, but through the trajectories of human lives.

A Buddhist temple in an ordinary residential district of a Vietnamese city thus speaks of many different lives at once. Of those whose lives are steeped in this place and for whom not a single day passes without it — their rituals are woven into the fabric of everyday life so naturally that they seem automatic. And of those who became mere chance witnesses, led there by its rating on a traveller’s list.
